The player character of Sucker for Love: Crush Landing is a host: a 1990s club worker who walks “dates” home and narrates like a man already budgeting a short life. Previews (PC Gamer, Noisy Pixel) put you in that job before the meteorite hits. You are not a cultist with a pink book. You are hospitality. That is funnier, and meaner, when the thing in your wall needs actual care.

What we know from the opening

He works nights. He is good at empty charm and bad at meaning it. He escorts someone home, starts back to the club, and a comet chooses his particular wall. A friend on the phone knows university researchers. He believes, or pretends to believe, that experts will handle the glowing rock. They will be ten minutes. He has a fridge. This is already a complete character: someone who thinks a professional network can outrun a colour.

He lives in the franchise apartment restaged in 360 degrees. The hole in the wall looks out on night city and power lines. It is a host’s flat, not an ancestral woods. Date to Die For’s Stardust energy is not the default read. Fan comments that he is “alternate Buck” are comments. Unless a later chapter names him, this wiki calls him the host.

The hand

The first important thing he does is ruin a hand. Touching Hheily correctly necrotizes it: numb, drained of colour, peeling like a cosmic burn. The screenshot language on the official stills is the character sheet. He worries, in narration, about his future as a host and about the health implications, then he keeps talking, because that is the job.

Touching with “something else” ends him. That is also character: a man who would rather not use the honest body part. The ash close is on neutral and bad endings.

How he talks, and why that matters

Hheily only has his words. A host’s vocabulary is sales. If he performs, she performs. If he panics, she panics in his register. The romance guide is really a guide to not giving a comet your worst patter. Introduce words you would want said back to you in a confession. That is the closest this protagonist gets to growth.

He can slam a door. He should. Hospitality is how scammers get in. The true-ending host is a bouncer with a peeling hand, not a concierge.

Relationship to the series

First Date’s man had a Necronomicon and a need. Date to Die For’s girl had a house and a family of horrors. Crush Landing’s host has a shift, a timer, and a rock. Thematically he is a return to the apartment, with Date to Die For’s production values on the sprites. You do not need the other protagonists to understand him. Knowing them only makes the missing book louder.

Launch comments celebrated specific voice actors in the cast. Play the intro once with voices on. The monologue is long because the game wants you tired of him before he becomes better than his job.

Playing as him without becoming him

• Save before you touch anything. He is impulsive. You should not be.
• Inventory colors like a closer counting bottles, not like a host offering the house.
• Take Flora seriously. He would treat her as a guest. You should treat her as a restock. Supporting cast.
• Do not snuff Hheily to feel in control. That is a Host or Blackout instinct. True ending.

When the campaign is over, he is either a man who kissed a colour or a man who went back to work with a grey hand and a story nobody at the club will believe. Both are Crush Landing. Only one needs the full walkthrough.
